Agent 47 has killed a lot of people. Without even including the movies, the novel, or the mobile game, he's been the main character of seven full games, plus Hitman 2's "Sniper Challenge" missions. Earlier this year, Redditor u/iamtheguy55 counted up how many people 47 has "officially" killed on the job, and the number is at least 347.

You probably don't remember either of the two Agent 47 movies, 2007's Hitman and 2015's Hitman: Agent 47. Neither of them are very good, but they would have been very different movies if casting had gone differently. We're not saying the movies would have been better or worse, but they definitely would have looked like an offshoot of the Fast & Furious franchise.

With the Hitman series focusing on stealth and taking out targets in the most creative ways possible, it might not have had the most faithful movie adaptations, but the game series stands as the crown jewel of stealth gaming.

As the release of Hitman: Absolution was nearing at the time, fans we rewarded with a mini-game upon pre-ordering the main event. It was a single level in which Agent 47 perched on a rooftop and players would pick off surrounding targets with a sniper rifle. This idea bloomed into Hitman Sniper, a mobile game that had three different levels each with several different targets.

However, despite fans thinking the game was derivative, critics praised the streamlined story (which is where the movies went wrong,) as it focused on Agent 47 going rogue from the agency and protecting a child from being turned into a super-assassin.

The talks for a Hitman film began back in February 2003, when Hitman was developed by Eidos (now Square Enix Europe). 20th Century Fox got the rights to make the movie. The studio hired Skip Woods, who would take care of the scenario, and Vin Diesel as an executive producer.

Hitman: Agent 47 revolves around Agent 47, a genetically engineered killer, considered the perfect hitman. Nobody knows his name, only knowing the last two digits located on the back of his head. He is the 47th Agent clone. 47 has unmatched speed, stamina, and strength.

Fans of spy and assassin films will be pleased to know that the games have taken inspiration from several movie sources like James Bond, Mission Impossible, The Day of the Jackal, and Leon: The Professional. While some games in the series have been instant classics for fans some entries failed to hit their mark.

Hitman Go was originally released on Android and iOS mobile systems in 2014 but was later released on the PlayStation 4 and Vita in 2016. Instead of a third-person perspective featured in the mainline series, Hitman Go was a turn-based, top-down game where Agent 47 moved around using grids.

Despite resembling a board game, this mobile entry captured the puzzle-like gameplay mechanics of the mainline series in a more simplistic way that's perfect for mobile devices. There were, however, some elements of the series that were missing like completing missions without killing non-targets, as well as some inescapable linearity.

In addition, Contractsis much darker and more violent in tone than its predecessors which is immediately evident in its opening level at the Meat King's nightclub. The game takes players all over the world with locations set in Romania, Siberia, the UK, Rotterdam, Budapest, Hong Kong, and Paris with an epilogue heavily inspired by the movie Leon: The Professional. It's another entry in the series that holds up well against the new titles, and it's one of the series darkest in its story and tone.

Performance, or ping, is arguably the most important. Ping refers to the network latency between your computer and the game server. This is largely out of your control, but an NBN plan will have a faster ping than a mobile broadband plan or home wireless internet connection. This shouldn't matter too much for casual gamers, however.

The film centers around rookie hitman Lai Fu (Daniel Wu) who is brought in from mainland China to kill the leader of a powerful Triad outfit by its bitter rivals.Fearing the ignition of a vicious turf war, the police is hot on his tail after being tipped off by the very man that hired him. He goes on the run together with Dan Dan (Cecillia Cheung), a prostitute that he helps escape from the control of her abusive john. The film slowly spirals into a hectic race against time as the two are being chased by the police and Triads.

Set over roughly 24 hours in the Asian gambling Mecca that is Macau, it tells the story of corrupt cop Sam trying to settle a turf war between two local Triad fractions: Brother K, whom he serves and Brother Lung, his bitter rival. Tensions run high as a mysterious hitman makes his presence and turns the entire city upside down. The minute the mysterious gun for hire steps into the scenery, the film progressively turns into a nauseating cascade of plot twists.

Playing as the genetically engineered and professional hitman Agent 47, players can use disguises to get unlock access within the levels, hide bodies to prevent suspicion, and use a variety of tools to complete the job. The Hitman series helped define the modern stealth action game, and while the early games appear similar to the latest ones, the formula has kept evolving with each entry bringing in new locations, new ways to dispatch targets, and impressive developments in artificial intelligence.

This is a star-packed movie about two brother assassins played by John C. Reilly and Joaquin Phoenix, and starring Jake Gyllenhaal. You might have read the book of the same name, and it is always hard to make a great film out of a great book but the brilliant director of A Prophet Jacques Audiard has done it (again). He is aided by a superb darkly comic script and fantastic acting from the entire cast. Audiard is French, but his take on the American Western is filled with epic violence but also witty dialogue, brotherly love, and male camaraderie.

Though the first movie just got over the $200 million mark at the worldwide box office, the performance (or lack thereof) by the sequel indicated no one wanted any more Mr. Reacher. It barely made $162 million worldwide.

Cruise was all set to be the Robert Downey Jr. of Universal's Dark Universe with the release of this movie and promises of more creature pictures to come. But playing a soldier of fortune who tries to stop an ancient Egyptian princess from taking over the world didn't grab audiences. It was another franchise not meant to be.

Still getting his legs under him in the movie biz, Cruise signed onto this teen comedy in which he's one of four friends who go on a hard-partying road trip to Tijuana in hopes of losing their virginity. Yes, even Cruise couldn't hide from the teen-sex-comedy genre when he started his career.

Man, John Woo deserved better than this. The legendary Hong Kong director took over the "Mission: Impossible" reins after Brian De Palma kicked things off with the first movie, but Woo didn't find the same success.

"Mission: Impossible II" did go on to become one of the highest-grossing movies of 2000, with over $546 million earned worldwide, but with its weak plot and character development, it has not aged anywhere near as well as the first movie (or the other movies in the franchise).

Marking the first movie released by United Artists after Cruise and his producing partner Paula Wagner took over (the two left UA after a couple of years) was "Lions for Lambs," a tense drama set around the war in Afghanistan and directed by Robert Redford.
